Megabyte
An amount of computer memory consisting of about one million bytes. The actual value is 1,048,576 bytes.

Megapixel
A unit equal to one million pixels. The higher the resolution, the more pixels in an image and therefore the greater the image quality. An image file that is 1 megapixel (MP) can make a photo realistic print of 5 x 7 inches; a 2 MP file can make an 8 x 10-inch print; a 3 MP file can make an 11 x 14-inch print.

Memory Stick
A memory card for use in Sony digital cameras and other devices.

Meta tags
Information stored in a web page that's not displayed in the browser window and which contains keywords describing the site. Some search engines use these meta tags to index that site.

Microdrive
A Microdrive is a data storage system developed by IBM, consisting of a tiny hard disk in a package the same size as a Compact Flash Memory card. Microdrives can store large amounts of data, but on the downside can be fragile due to having moving parts.

Modem
Modulator/Demodulator. A device that enables computer signals to travel over phone lines. Modems come in different speeds. If you intend to use the Internet, you should usually go for a fast 56 Kbps V90 standard modem. Also check out special modems and access to faster ISDN or broadband connections. A standard modem connects the computer via a telephone line, a cable modem uses a cable network and a DSL modem uses a telephone line which is connected to an DSL enabled exchange.

Mulitmedia Messaging Service
Like normal text messaging (SMS), but with greater multimedia capability, such as pictures and sound, which can be sent to e-mail addresses as well as other mobile phones.
